Well, I finally had a go at it with File Buddy. I opened most of my
applications, and sure enough there was no check in the custom icon box.
Fixed them and restarted and rebuilt the desktop - no dice - the generic
icons stayed. I used filebuddy to double check - the custom icon check mark
was still there. Could the custom icon files have been deleted? I doubt it -
I have downloaded installer files from the internet and they don't have a
custom icon from the get-go. I transfer them to my desktop - custom icon -
transfer it back - its gone. Could there be something else going on?
