I've got a 2400c with the Newer G3 240 upgrade. It gets light use now, but
it looks like it will soon become my main day-to-day computer, so I'm
concerned about heat and longevity. So, I ask the list:

1) Lately people are saying that their chips are running at 150 degrees or
130 degrees or whatever. What utility are you using to find this out? I'd
like to keep track of heat to see if anything I may do helps out.

2) Sidney Ho said:

I've added an aluminum block to connect the CPU directly to the aluminum pad
of the lower case housing the convection tube. I think this works better
than a thermal pad or grease.

I've also seen the Japanese page that shows the application of thermal pads.
So, am I to understand that my CPU is not in direct contact with the
bottom of the case (the heat sink)? That's crazy! What thickness and size
of aluminum do you need to connect the cpu to the heat sink? How do you
fasten it? Should I also do this to the HD?? What's the 'convection tube?'

3) I have a Bookendz dock which raises the bottom of the machine off the
ground a little bit. That would help, right?? Should I direct a fan under
there?

I love my 2400 and I want to keep it alive forever!

Shaun.
