As I understand it there is no way that the GV 19.2 modem can connect at
the 19.2 speed EXCEPT to another modem using a specific Global Village
communications protocol. But, having said that, the GV 19.2 modem is
still a better modem than the Express Modem with them both connected at
14.4. The reason is that the Express Modem is really just "half a modem"
so to speak. It does not do all the work that most modems do. It depends
on the Powerbook computer to do much of the work, tying up precious
computer time doing what most modems do themselves. I am sure this
explanation could use a little clarification but I think it gives a
fairly accurate general idea.
