Hi all,

Well, I now happily have my "new" Duo 2300c up and running, tricked
out with a MiniDock (thanks Laurent!), 2x external Apple CD drive
that I picked up off eBay, external floppy drive (thanks Ed), and a
33.6k Zoom external modem that I had lying around the house. I even
found a Visioneer PaperPort vX scanner on eBay to run off the serial
port.

The flickering band on the screen persists-not sure if that's a
backlight going bad, or perhaps the video cable. I can live with it
for now, but eventually I'll have to get that fixed. I'm not sure
it's something I can fix myself.

On my wish list is to eventually upgrade the RAM to 56 megs. Right
now I have 36 installed.

But the immediate need is to find an inexpensive way to get my Duo on
Ethernet. One of my iMacs is equipped with a serial card, and I'm
perfectly happy with the slow but reliable LocalTalk network I can
set up with the Duo. But my other iMac is without a serial port, and
I'd like to be able to link my Duo with it too (in case my main iMac
ever gets sick and has to go to the shop or something). So I need an
Ethernet connection. The Etherdocks I've been seeing on eBay are more
than I want to spend just now, so I've been looking at the Asante
EN/SCSI adapters that are always available. I downloaded the drivers
from Asante however, and it appears that they require system 7. Has
anybody successfully used this with OS 8.1 to set up a SCSI-Ethernet
connection with their Duos?

Failing that, what about the many adapters that allow one to connect
to Ethernet via the Duo's serial port? Do these require drivers, and
if so, do any of them work with OS 8.1?

Many thanks,

Nancy Butts
