Several days ago I requested some help regarding a display backlight
problem on my 2400c. I am again requesting any insight or help any
duolist member can offe. If you have experience with display
backlighting and particularly the 2400c display please share it.

The problem with the display backlighting on my 2400c began to develop
about a month ago. The right side of my display appears darker than the
left side. The screen is brightest in the lower left corner. Beginning
about one half inch from the lower left corner the light flares up and
out at a 45 degree angle. The flare is still noticeable just before the
screen turns black when dimming the display using the brightness control.

The problem is worse when the book is wakened after sleep. When I wake
it from sleep in the morning the flare is very noticeable and it is quite
difficult to read the screen. The brightness improves once the book
reaches about 118 F and is much better when the temperature reaches 130
F. Even then the screen is much darker than it was previously.

I have adjusted the brightness and re-calibrated the screen color using
the sound monitor control panel numerous times. I have attached the
2400c to an external monitor and the image is clear and bright; no
problems.

In the 2400c Service Manual display exploded view I see what appears to
be 2 fluorescent lamps; one running up each side of the screen; no part
numbers listed for the fluorescent lamps. I have heard, however, that
there is only one fluorescent lamp in the 2400c. I have not opened the
display so I don't know what is acually there. Does anyone know?

1. Does it appear from the above description that the fluorescent?
backlight is failing or does it sound like a problem with the display
itself? Does anyone have a part number for the 2400c backlight?

2. Has anyone had experience with a display backlight problem like I
have described? Any suggestions, recommendation, or insights?

The 2400c is my primary computer. I use it at work, home and when I
travel. It has an Interware 320 processor, a 12Mb drive, and is cardbus
enabled. The work was all done by MCE last April. The drive is
partitioned with one partition running 8.6 and the other 9.04. The
backlight problems is the same on both systems.

I want to have the display repaired, but I would like to have some idea
what I am dealing with first.

Thanks again.
