THere is a place in Augusta, GA, www.batteryclinic.com (they are a
chain, actually), that managed to find someone who has rebuilt Duo
batteries. I sent in a dead Type 3 battery (one that has the
electronics still OK) and they rebuilt it using the newest 2700 mAh
cells (compared to the 1800 mAh in that type 4 BTI). If you examine
tha battery after I got it back, they did a good job; its hard to
tell they had to crack it open.
The battery rebuild cost me a total of $106. I ran the battery on my
overclocked Duo 280c, and I did not let the Duo screen go to sleep.
After about 1.5 hrs, the battery was registering about 50% charge. I
havnt done any other tests on it, but Im not sure what else to do.
I didnt have to zap the PRAM or reset the power manager, just put it
in , charged it a bit, and it worked great. The battery has a 1 year
warranty.
You can see if they have a place close to you, or try contacting the
one in Augusta and see if you can mail it to them, or you could mail
it to me and I can send it in. Your call (preferably the first 2,
but I can if I have to).
Now if I could only get the PRAM batteries rebuilt, but it just
doesnt look cost-effective. Bummer.
