Let me add an enthusiastic voice of support for WriteNow - it was the first wp s/w I bought for my (then) new IIci. I bought it quite by accident actually, thinking for some reason it was a Mac port of the then-popular (and peecee only) WordPerfect. In fact, I used it exclusively all through college, many early freelance writing assignments and school lesson plans, and even wrote the first edition of my first book entirely using it and my trusty 280c (shameless plug: "Insiders' Guide to Civil War Sites in the Southern States," 2nd edition out sometime this year). I still use WN whenever I'm on the road with my Duo, but have, sadly, been forced to give in to the Evil Empire's Word to do more intricate and lengthier assignments at home lately, and must do all my classroom stuff using it so I don't have to reformat endlessly at school (one of the few real weaknesses of WN is that it doesn't play nice with later versions of Word files). I must agree, WN is the fastest, most "transparent" wp I have ever used! John McKay >The late lamented WriteNow 4 is still a superb WP program--compact (less >than 1 mb total install, under 400kb for the app), superbly, unbelievably >BLAZINGLY FAST on any PB (whether 68k or PPC), PB optimized and suitable for >90 pct of one's needs. It imports/exports a variety of file types including >RTF and is much more versatile than a text editor. If you are in a ram >challenged/ram disk/power conservation mode, do find/replace often, there is >none better (500 pages for reformat or find/replace are unbelievably >fast--just a few seconds!). I've tried various versions of Word, AppW, WP, >Nisus, Mariner Write etc. but WN still beats them all for basic writing. >Unfortunately it is no longer published but still runs fine on everything >from a PB100-Sys5 up to any G3-OS9+. -- ******************************************************************** * John McKay * (school) [EMAIL PROTECTED] * * former A-1/506th, 101st ABN * (home) [EMAIL PROTECTED] * * Social Studies Department * (AOL) Firetcher * * Yeshiva Atlanta High School * * ******************************************************************** ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
