<<So, the PowerPC processor rules out your 280c, sorry. If you're kind of new
to the Internet, America Online is easy for starters and lets you browse the
internet. However, access is not that great, usually slow speeds. But if
you're planning to use your 280c's internal modem, that shouldn't be too
much of a problem, since the modem's speed is limited to 14.4Kbs. However,
one concern is whether there is still a 68K version of the AOL software. Any
other 280c owner using AOL here?>>

I use AOL v.3 on my Quadra 800(28.8 modem) and it works just fine, so should
be the same on a 280c. v.4 is a little clunky with the Quadra, though it
works great on PPC. Get a friend who's an AOL member to refer you(order you
a CD with password at keyword Friend ), and he/she will make $50 if you keep
AOL's service for 3 months!

<<AOL is crap. And not cheap, as far as net access goes. If you want to hook
your 280c to the net for cheap try a free service. You'll need to borrow
access to sign up, or go to a webcafe. Search for free www, or look on
lowendmac for info (especially for 68k mac access).....>>

Not many free ISPs for 68k Macs left, and those that are fill your screen
with ads. You could check these comparison sites:

As for a financial program: Quicken 5 works great on Quadra, though some
Y2K problems that can be easily worked around; Quicken 7 may have solved
these.
