Well, Then I would suggest the following:
1.) Install a password protected screensaver (and tell me again why MacOS
doesn't have a built-in screensaver? Mind you, I'd remove it, but it could
be handy if MacOS cam with a screensaver control panel...)
2.)Backup your data (just in case)
3.) Use FWB or Silverlining, or something similar to install a third party
driver on you hard disk.
4.) Password protect the third party hard disk driver
This way, if the computer is on, the screen saver will lock them out. If
it is turned off, they will need to unlock the hard drive before it
boots. That eliminates the whole "Shift key problem". Not to mention that
most programs like Foolproof and FileGuard can be disabled by the shift
key, too. They also require that you password protect you hard drive in
the way I just described.
