For the most part Apple Disk Setup generally can't update drivers on hard
drives that weren't initialized with Apple Disk Setup.

You could backup the drive's content and reinitialize it with Apple's Drive
Setup. If you want to use a third party utility, Silverlining is a good one
and ships with APS drives (although it may be under their own name). FWB's
Hard Disk Toolkit is supposed to be another good utility although I don't
have firsthand experience with it.

I would make sure that you use the latest version of whatever you choose for
optimal compatibility with OS9 (otherwise why bother to update).
