Donald,
I believe the Apple 14.4 internal modem is a GeoPort type modem. It requires
a combination of software and hardware to make it fully functional.
Your installation of the GV software may have disabled the software for the
internal modem. It's been a while since I had a 280 so I don't remember the
specific control panel(s) and extension(s) required for it to work.
Sorry I couldn't provide more specific info on getting it going but I'm sure
it will still work.
