Hey all,
I've been slowly adding apps to a Duo 230 I acquired a while back. It has
Sys 7.5.something installed on it with 12 megs of ram. I have some older
software I collected back in the days I used to play with SE's and the like.
I've been using the Duo for word processing and keeping grades for my
classes. Word 5.x was installed on the Duo and it works pretty well. I
ditched the Excel app as it was too slow for my liking. I use Easy Grade
Pro for the grades and it works like a champ. I highly recommend it. We
have to use Integrade for windows at school and I must say it sux. Ok, to
be fair, we did upgrade Integrade to the newest version. It just kind of
sux now.
I have ClarisWorks 4.0 and Appleworks 5 that I could install, but I thought
I would ask for some opinions first. Any of you have preferences between
the two versions on a Duo? Any of you prefer CW or AW over Word 5? I use
AW and Office 98 on a G3 upgraded 7500, so I could go both ways on the Duo,
except that HD space is limited. So it's pretty much one word processor over
the other. I've used NisusWriter (which I like) and other great word
processors, but I need to stay more or less compatible and consistent for my
own sanity. Is the Claris/AW spreadsheet quicker than Excel on the Duo?
As for games, I've been playing mostly Eric's solitaire sampler and a game
called Mombasa (match and remove tiles like in Shanghai). I am using
Mombasa v1.0 (circa 1989), but I discovered v1.5 (circa 1994 and colorized)
tonight. MacSoft has an arcade pack where Bricklayer (Tetris) and Macman
Pro (PacMan) will work with the Duo's greyscale monitor. Before the
software police struck, Jag's House was a great source for old games and
apps. What suggestions do you have for games on the Duo? I don't care if
they are free, shareware, or commercial. I think it is cool to get use and
enjoyment out of these "obsolete" machines. I like to fire up the old Mac
Plus with its luxurious 1mb of ram and show people what the old girl can do,
hehe.

Thanks for any input,
Rich

BTW, has anybody ever purchased the full version of Eric's Solitaire? Just
curious if it was worth it. I finally bought the full version of the
Graphing Calculator which comes with OS 8.x and it is exceedingly cool.
