Thanks for all of the responses to my original query regarding ISPs for
overseas travel. I decided to go with Compuserve, and so far I have had
good connections. I looked up all of the access numbers for my journey in
advance and set them up as locations in the Compuserve client software. I
am really just using the CS client as a big clunky dialer, accessing my
email from trusty Claris Emailer 2.0v3.

My worst problem now is the OBSCENE rates that most European hotels
charge (per 'unit') for local telephone calls.

By the way, I decided to bring along my Orinoco card just to see if I
could find any public 802.11 wireless networks...I remember noticing when
I had a layover in Singapore airport last year that they had free
coverage for the whole terminal building. Last week, I tested the card in
London Heathrow Terminal 3, and the Airport software showed the presence
of 'WaveLan' network, which allowed me to join (without a password), but
I was unable to connect to the internet.

Is anyone aware of a listing of public facilities or other locations that
have Airport/802.11 wireless internet access? This would be a great tool
for travelers.

I'm also setting up my PowerBook as an Airport Software Base station
whenever I connect so that one of my colleagues in another room can share
the connection (and the cost!) with his Airport-equipped Pismo.

Brian
