+ +In thanks to this list and the 2400c website, I wanted to
+ +describe,
+ +(as a complete electronics novice who still doesn't understand
+ +anything about electricity), selected tips on successfully
+ +opening up
+ +and closing a 2400c.
+ +
+ +4. Ground the wrist strap. Since I didn't know exactly what this
+ +involved and now kind of do, I offer the following
+ +suggestion. Undo
+ +the faceplate of a nearby grounded electrical outlet. Remember to
+ +avoid electrocuting yourself by turning off the power. Find the
+ +ground wire. Either attach a wire to the ground to which
+ +you attach
+ +your wrist strap or if the ground wire touches the metal
+ +outlet box,
+ +attach your wrist strap to the metal box. I'd be
+ +interested in other
+ +ideas to easily get a good ground source for your wrist strap.

The safest way to do this is to modify a spare mains plug by fitting a
4mm terminal to the top cover and connecting it to the earth pin (if
your wrist strap does not have a built in resistor then connect the
terminal to the earth pin with a 1m ohm resistor).
this is far safer than messing about with the socket.
alternatively just clip the earth strap to a mains water pipe or
central heating radiator as these should already be grounded (if they
are not then sue your plumber as it is a legal requirement (at least
it is in the UK).
