The speed will be limited ONLY if the transfer rate the drive is capable of exceeding
the SCSI-2 FAST specifications. The SCSI interface sets an upper limit, but the actual
cabilities of the hard drive mechanism determines the actual transfer rates obtainable.
If this was an older design and the interface was merely upgraded to SCSI-3, chances
are it will not exceed the SCSI-2 FAST bus 10MB/sec. Very few of the early Ultra, Fast
& Wide or Ultra-Wide drives came remotely close to the limitations of the SCSI
interface spec. Before you invest in a new SCSI card, install the drive and benchmark
it - if the transfer rates are well below SCSI-2 limitations a faster interface will
not improve them. If you have exceed the # of devices for the existing bus or wish to
create a RAID array that is a different matter.
