Had a similar problem. Your battery may not be making good contact.
Take pencil with an eraser and gently clean the 5 contacts inside the
battery bay. While your in there gently bend the contact UP to make better
contact with the battery. Make sure you don't have the AC plugged in while
doing this.
You might also clean the contacts on the batteries.
