Ok---
I know this thread was started and answered a dozen
times over but I didn't pay enough attention because
"it could never happen to me" (...and before anyone
rolls their eyes...you all have said the same thing to
yourself at one time or another.)
So I just got my powerbook back for DT&T (thanks to
guidance from the list) for the repair of the
processor thanks to my botched drive exchange. I
enjoy it for a couple of weeks before I find a problem
charging. With increasing frequency it appeared to
me that there was a "lag time" between plugging in the
charger and the charging icon coming on the toolbar.
(I really didn't time it and it didn't matter which
battery was in use). After no charge from the adapter
and every battery used up I finally got around to
looking at the old adapter (and ordering another from
MCE). The cord must have gotten pinched. I
temporarily spliced and soldered the cord tonight. I
tried it and it works. I also not notice that I get
the RED X OVER THE BATTERY ICON! I plug the battery
into the computer and notice the charge-level
indicator flash briefly in the controlbar but then
disappear (the plug icon remains). The X also remains
on the battry icon. Is it another pc board in the
computer?? I'm getting a ittle fed up here over the
time put into repairs. The guy at DT&T says that my
computer runs "hotter" (than other 2400's, I presume?)
although he didn't elaborate much...maybe because of a
language barrier. I also noticed that the was a
screw missing of the keyboard when I reinstalled the
extra RAM card from Bill and the right arrow key
doesn't work (I don't seem to remember if it was not
functional before the repair).
I also, in my frustration, may not have noted here
that I zapped the PRAM (the time was off after a few
days without main battery...I guess they forgot to
replace it at DT&T when I asked...oh well).
I hate to send cars and computers in for diagnosies
(or maybe I just hate hearing the answers)....what
could it be?
Thanks in advance for the help,
A VERY FRUSTSTED MAC OWNER,
Paul
I'm just glad I'm not frustrated over a G4 Powerbook
malfunction. ( <---drab, sarcastic humor attempt)
