I'll bet money that the Global Village software is occupying the Serial/Modem Port. Disable the Global Village extensions and give it a shot. Living with one Serial port is a real pain, in case you hadn't realized yet.... If that doesn't work, the internal Express modem might be occupying the serial port if it is set to emulate the modem port.
