I never had the endurance to run (the very troublesome and intrusive) disk utilities and anti-virus extensions. They have been (historically) very unstable and when I'm shutting down or rebooting I just don't want to go through extra Finder clicks and wait around for these routines. When I run NU I always skip the "search for File Saver" to speed NU up. I figure if the disk is that far gone, it's time to go to DW--a much faster and more convincing operation. Anyway, I run preventative maintenance every few weeks so I can afford this "bad habit" of impatience. A NU (skipping media and file checks) and/or DW run takes just a few minutes and keeps the Finder snappy and Mac doctors away. > (Go Ski, then start a nice fire and have some wine. We ended up with regional power out, trees down and about 18" of snow locally. Couldn't even get to the slopes but skiing should be great today (5 minutes to the lifts, 5 minutes to boating on the lake).
