After being out of the loop for the day working on class assingments,
I finialy got a look at the newiBook 2001. And as fer as I can tell,
I won't get one

Because of it similar sise, the iBook seems like a replacment for the
1400. It is still bigger then a 2400. I have to have a small sized
laptop because it is small. The iBook is just about the size that I
would think twice about bringing it with me when I hit the road.

The optical drive (CD/RW/DVD) drive is another thing I could do
without. I barley use the optical drive in my desktop G4, and the
only time I've had to use an optical drive on my 2400 has been to
re-install MacOS when i got it. Once in 5 months. I'd rather seen an
external FireWire drive, so it can be left behind.

The iBook's screen size and keyboard are too big, and that keeping it
from getting smaller. The small keyboard on the 2400's is not that
big of an issue (It actualy my favorite keyobard to use, I wish I
could get a desktop version) and Id rather see a 10 inch 1024x768
screen.

If you've own a 2400, you know about it's battery life, and how
litthe there is of it. The 5 hours is very tempting. Same goes for
Airport and built-in ethernet, it would be nice not to have to deal
with the PCMCIA cards.

However, technicaly, the iBook 2001 is smaller!
iBook 2001 by volume = 137.592 cubic inches
2400 by volume = 151.59375 cubic inches

But the footprint ....
iBook 2001's footprint is is 101.92 square inches
2400's footprint is 84 square inches

So the iBook feels bigger even though it is smaller.

I won't mention the power adaptors. The 2400 wins.

I feel that the weight is a dead tie. Sure iBook is heavier, but add
the PCMCIA cards and dongles those cards to use with your 2400, it s
dead even.

So, I'm glad I have a 240mHz G3 upgrade on the way for my 2400 to go
along with it's new 20gb hard drive, but if you gave me a iBook 2001,
I woudn't complain :-)
