C'mon we have to give Apple credit where credit is due. The iBook is great
for what it is. It just may not be for (the rest of) us. Some people want
the screen bigger (certainly not on this list), others wanted it smaller.
Those who speculated Apple would never build another subnotebook are
probably right. The iBook pulls us in the wrong direction. If only Apple
would pull the DVD/CD out, put in a PC card slot and get it under 1" in the
same form factor, I'd be happy enough (just as a compromise). But it's all
you're gonna git! (You will note that there is enough room in the screen
bezel to go to 13.3").

For basic work, email and surfing the 2400 will serve for years. For me the
Holy Grail has always been a sub-3 pounder notebook for the road. Think
Titanium with a 10.4" 1024 x 768 screen. It would be small but not too
small. But Apple won't produce it so your "compact" upward path choices will
be upgrade the 2400, new iBook, migrate to Sony Vaio or be orphaned. (I keep
a PPC638 68040 machine for the roms just in case I want to run emulation on
a PC--a thought that periodically crosses my mind). Win is getting better,
CPUs are getting much faster faster, subnotebook choices are far more and
surfing/email is much better on the PC side and most software is already
cross-platform with far more choices on the PC side. BTW I also subscribe to
the HPLX mailing list (HP200LX DOS based)--if you think you are fanatic
about power computing in a small format--this is a pocket sized baby running
up to 96mb ram and 1.2 gb PCMCIA flash cards, 56k modem, irDA, and every DOS
program ever made and multitasks a heckuva lot of programs all at once. It
just doesn't have Mac OS or a backlit screen. FWIW it's mega!
