One of my two 2400's has done this since day one. I 'frankenbooked'
the two together and fixed both of their idiosyncracies, but then I
ran into a Japanese website that described how to fix this problem
(thankfully in English as well as Japanese). It came down to a gear
falling out of alignment on the eject mechanism of the 2400's PC Card
cage. Easy to fix apparently.

I'll try and dig up the URL in my archives and post it.

You might try the mac2400 page and its links to Japanese pages (that
is how I found it.)
