Apple's latest:
Following their certain smash success with the new iBook, Apple is
developing a new ultra-thin portable for graphics and CAD intensive
applications. These new machines incorporate a new variant of the Apple
Cinema Display format at 22" diagonal. The screen uses the latest IBM
technology which allows a thickness of only 1 mm. The computer measures 11"
deep x 17" wide x 1/2" thick. The thin case restricts the use of hard drives
to 9 mm format.

The latest generation of textile membrane keyboards has been incorporated to
keep the form factor extremely slim. The flexible thin film polymer ion
battery completes the effect and achieves a battery life of 10 hours. The
target market is the high-end graphics and engineering market.

I thought I'd mention it because this remarkable state-of-the-art computer
ends up with by far the most compact volume of 11 x 17 x 0.5 = 93.5 cu. in.
Now that's really subcompact and will travel well everywhere.
