It took me an interesting month to install system software from CD and
Cdrom. Sometimes an icon of the CD would appear on the desktop and
sometimes not, sometimes everything would appear more dimensional and
full coloured, sometimes if the CD loaded the info didn't seem to be all
there.

It was very inconsistent but eventually somehow worked--the original
2400c system and the 8.0 and 8.5 were successfully taken in. Even with
help and encouragement from someone on the list here, (Thanks again!).
I really don't know exactly what I did differently in the end. By some
miracle it worked.

My EarthLink CD arrived in the mail and I tried to load it. But now the
CDrom and the 2400c seem to have nothing to do with one another! Not
even a partially apearing CD icon on the desktop. Zilch. The cd-rom
shows up in the drives folder--where one initializes disks--there it is
listed after the 'macintosh harddrive'. The very helpful Internet Setup
Assistant enabled me to configure the connection and go online.

I've considered purchasing another CDrom. One that comes with drivers.
The one i ave here doesn't appear to hav anyname on it. Its a 24x long
fary lightweight offwhite coloured rectangular box.

After installing the origial software systems and updatesno notice
appeared advising any need for firmware updates.

Anyone know what might be the problem (aside from me being a confounded
newbie! ) ?

Thanks,
Kate
