I once tried this myself- (failed miserably...) and IIRC the batteries were soldered 
to a metal strip for electrical contact. Did you somehow use the original metal strip, 
or did you use wire to wire the batteries together? I'm very curious what you actually 
used. This was the step that foiled me because I actually tried to use the original 
strip, which died a horrible death....

Inquiring MadScientists want to know ;-) 

Also, you should keep the List informed as to the long-term results of this diabolical 
miracle...
