Lewis,

Regarding your "Road-warrior" 2300c. I recommend the following:

1.) Upgrade RAM to 56MB if you can justify the cost. Difficult to find
upgrades, though.
2.) Use OS 7.6.1 with the Appearance manager extensions if you have limited
RAM. I used to run 8.6 on my 2300c with 56MB. OS 8.1 is often considered a
great OS for the 2300c b/c of the greater amount of PowerPC native code
included. Choice of OS for 2300's is a particularly explosive topic, but I
don't think that anyone here on the list recommends 7.5.5 over 7.6.1 for any
'040 or PPC Mac.
3.) iCab is a great little browser. It's quick and has a small memory
footprint. Also, IE 4.5 or 4.0.1 is a decent choice.
4.) I like Eudora Pro 3.1 for quick and dirty POP based e-mail. If you need
IMAP compatibility, you will need a newer program. This is a commercial
program and it's hard to find, I assume. The newer versions are a bit
slower. I have used Eudora Pro 3.1 on '030 based macs with no speed
problems.

Tom

PS: Really, if you don't want to run 8.1, definitely get 7.6.1 much more
stable and improved feature set.
