I installed new ram, a new hard drive and a new g3 processor on an
acquaintance's 1400c some days ago. The keyboard was very stubborn to
come up as you put it. Worse yet, it wouldn't go back down and I had
to push it in a bit. You should be firm and careful and the thing
should lose its "stubbornness" provided you pay attention to the
notch inside the case and install the ram properly so that the ram
module sits in a horizontal position and it doesn't interfere with
the heat sink.

The good news now is that thanks to the new innards the machine *just flies*.
