1/Paul: I use Synchronize! from Qdea, which I prefer over the Mac-solution, 
though they are similar. Matter of habit perhaps? Worth checking it out imho, 
allows looking for multiple-hour differences (such as when I forgot to set 
the timne after PRAMing) and some other goodies.

Which brings me to 

2/Glenn: I loose the serial number from Synchronize when I pram. Sounds 
similarly weird, doesn't it?
