(Or is ethernet something I can >just get a PC card for? > >Corina, look on ebay, search for "platinum pro" You can get a Global >Village ethernet/modem combo card for about 20bux! good deal! The ethernet component in the Platinum Pro (and the GV 56k combo card) is a complete piece of junk. I've had one for the last couple of years, and I finally got sick of it and bought a Farallon PN595a card for $20 US (unused, too). I'd previously replaced the modem component with a TDK 56k card. I'd highly recommend getting anything but a GV card for ethernet (the modem component is ok, but only 33.6 on the Platinum Pro, and there are cheaper ways to get a 56k modem than the GV combo carD). The GV ethernet component is poorly designed, runs incredibly hot, and brings the machine to its knees on large tranfers (probably because the driver is 68k code and will never be updated). The Farallon card has the additional advantage of running under other operating systems - LinuxPPC on the 2400, other Unices and Windows on Intel notebooks. It's actually a 3com OEM chipset, which doesn't make it the best or anything, but at least it's well-supported. Other cards are similarly good that way, though (anything based on a Realtek chipset for instance). Just don't buy the orphaned, crappy GV card, because it doesn't work on anything but the Mac OS (and barely there). I'll ask the person I bought my card from whether he has more, and whether I can mention his email address here. -- Marc Sira | [EMAIL PROTECTED] "If you can't play with words, what good are they?" ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
