For me sometimes this problem has had to do with jumper settings on the
external drive. Also...
What are you using to connect the drive to the hdi 30 port, an adapter or
a one-piece cable? If it's an adapter, does it have one corner pin
missing or not?
Pbooks should have no trouble starting up from externals.
