In the interests of frivolity and continuing a useless thread that has a small heart of value, I'd like to offer my take on above and below quote posting.

The primary determinant (IMHO) is to present the reply in the manner which will be easiest for a third party to read. Case in point is what I'm doing right now, which is wrong. You have no accurate idea what I'm responding to, so you have to jump down, read the quoted text and then find your way back to where you left off. Bad post, bad, bad!

>True, but is this way really what you prefer, Andy? Most everyone posts
>replies after, not before, for good reason I think. I was in no way
>quoting from some sacred netiquette rulebook, as there is none.

So generally, I'll put the relevant quote first, reply to it and requote if necessary then reply under that.

There is a big fat exception to this. Often you'll see a really long explanation of something interesting that can't really be chopped up. Or it could be a series of posts and replies that runs for more than 15 -20 lines or so. In that case I'd post my reply at the top and put the quoted text to be referenced below.

Again, making the post easy to read is the criteria one should use and in that light, notice that I've put 5 blank lines to seperate my paragraphs.

< and now, stepping off soap box to sighs of general relief>

PS: NEVER QUOTE THE FOOTERS!!!
