The Energy Saver control panel in OS 8.5 and later causes this
problem. Remove it and replace it with the Powerbook control panel
from 8.1 to solve it. You will lose the Energy Saver's ability to put
"processor cycling" on different settings between battery and wall
power, but the other power management stuff will still work.
