I believe that this box is for the European modems, which don't have the US style modem's RJ-11 plug on the back of the machine. If you flip down the left leg of the machine (When looking at the back) you should see a DIN connector similar to a serial port if I am not mistaken. Behind the right leg you should find an actual serial port. If you find a blank plastic panel and no plug of any kind behind the left leg, then you really don't have a modem installed.
