Ed and like-minded listers, Following this line of reasoning, we shouldn't ever use anyone except Apple to repair our computers. All of these other interlopers should be called names and hung out to dry, no? I should close shop. DT&T, MCE, Powerbookguy, MacResQ, Shreve, Sun, Small Dog, CompUSA, dozens of others should just stop and let Apple take care of their systems 'cuz we are harming the ultimate Mac resource?. Well, OK, so maybe CompUSA should close -- but I hope the others don't. Good golly -- I know you are too intelligent to really believe what you wrote. MCE is a fine business -- but here's a question for you: did MCE "invent" this fix? Or, did they get the "fix" from inside sources at Apple or somewhere else? If they aren't the absolute originator of the Cardbus fix, are you going to stop using them when you learn that they learned of the fix from another source? I think you see how silly this can get. No resources need protecting. Those who want to have a professional do the work will. Those who are daring enough to hack their own boards will. MCE and I will survive without the latter (or rather, we'll see some of those jobs, too :) ). How about Calvin... did he really reverse engineer this from an MCE-altered powerbook, or did he simply stumble across the Japanese website and take it from there, only to post what he did after Ralph blew his cover? (Sorry Calvin ... maybe it happened some other way. Regardless, you weren't the first to discover what MCE does... and they (MCE) weren't, either.) The boy posted useful info -- and while some of us (Kevin, myself, probably a few others) may lose one or two jobs because of it -- I still think I'd rather have the information disseminated than put a gag order on someone else. Stifling freedom of speech is the constitution of religions and governments -- and has always ultimately done more harm than good. And now he wants to take cardbus a step further. Should we stop him? Hell, no. One too many beers has taken the good sense I normally have not to follow an OT thread for more than one post, but I felt Calvin needed some vindication here. I think this horse is in the can now. I'm going back to playing with my daughter and wishing you all a good weekend. paul ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
