Sorry, but there was nothing remotely political in what I said.  It was
simply logic.  Regardless of how an energy shortage arises, it is physically
difficult (at best) to conserve your way out of it.  If energy supply is E
and demand is 1.05 E, then perhaps you can plug the dike temporarily.
However, society will always demand an increasing energy supply (if you want
a growing and advancing society), so even in the case of a minor energy
shortfall, conservation is at best a temporary solution.  Of course, in
cases where energy supply of E is trying to meet a demand of 2 E (or even
1.5 E), the idea of conservation being the primary means of dealing with the
crisis is patently ridiculous.  Nothing political about this in the least.
It is basic physics and logic.  The fact that it doesn't match with your
opinion is irrelevant and in no way means I'm of one political view or
another.  If you fall and hurt yourself, you might fervently wish that the
laws of gravity didn't apply, but that too is irrelevant in precisely the
same way.
