IIRC, this is b/c the Computer is looking for a DHCP server. This is a TCP/IP issue. If you have TCP/IP configured to use a DHCP server, then it will attempt to find one and keep trying every so often until it does. You should verify that under TCP/IP options "Load only when needed" is checked. (You may have to change 'user mode' under the 'edit' menu to advanced) This makes sure that the Mac doesn't enable TCP/IP except when it is being accessed by an application.
