>>The manner in which you create your "Ad" . . . the day of the week. .and even
     >> the time of day. . .are VERY important and can add many. . .MANY . . .
     >> percentage points to your end closing price.

     >> So, are you at liberty to reveal to us what these secrets to successful
auctioning ARE?
     >>What time? What day? What aspect of the ad? What phase of the moon?
     >> Inquiring minds need to know!! The suspense is killing me! :-)
    >> David P. Reaves, III

I dont know about relaying this to you <g>. . . . lots of people pay good money for
this info. <G>

These are No Brainers, but, you would be surprised at the lack of sense a lot of
people have:
Dont schedule an auction to close on Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving, Easter or
4th of July
<G>!!
Keep in mind that folks from all Time Zones are likely looking to buy what you are
selling. If you
live in CA. . dont schedule an auction to
close at Midnight . .your time . .because in Philly . . it is 0300.

Dont end it ANYTIME during work hours! The boss gets pissed off if his troops are
shopping on
company time.

So, the best times are;
Saturday and Sunday mornings (not The Super Bowl Sunday -or any other special event)
and early
afternoons
-and weekdays . . . after 6 PM (Pacific Time -9 PM. .Eastern). At these times, the
commute is
mostly over on the West Coast -and dinner is long over in the East. If someone really
wants
something. . they are going to set their alarm to get it ( I do. . all the time) Love
to take
advantages of the Time, Space Continuum challenged folks who dont grasp this basic
concept <G> and
pick up stuff that someone has isted to close at 0200. . when everyone is sleeping.

Some Dos:

1) A PHOTO is a MUST! Dont leave out a picture!! Let people know exactly what they
are bidding on.
Better if it is one you have taken and not a generic.
2) Use HTML -and glitz it up a little. I really hate run-on, plain text listings that
show the guy
didnt put any thought or effort into the exercise. Dont be unclear about any of your
terms. Dont
try to make an extra buck and rip folks off with high Shipping! Shipping MUST be
actual cost, cheap
and stated, up-front.
3) If an item is worth someone buying, it is worth you putting a little effort into,
to sell it.
4) Be explicitly clear on the wording in the listings header, IE: PowerBook 3400c
Ethernet/Modem
Adapter Dongle. Dont make folks open up the auction, only to discover it is not what
they are
looking for, because the Seller is too dumb to list it thoroughly and correctly -and
use key words
in your auction's Listing and Description (people use the Search feature and have to
find it ,
first)
5) Dont use a reserve price. .that turns off most people.
7) Use a counter (for you and the psychological effect it has on bidders) It is a
good idea -and it
is free.
8) Join PayPal and make paying for the auction easier.
8) Good FeedBack -and lots of it - insures bidders they are dealing with someone
reputable.
9) Use the Buy it Now! feature- with a reasonable price. People, if they really want
/ need
something, like instant gratification.

Here is an example of two very successful, recent auctions:
