On the main >>system (PB2400/180MHz/80MB/6GB), I've installed the Hard Disk SpeedTools > >software that came with the Datashuttle. You don't need the HDS drivers to access the DataShuttle via the PCMCIA interface, and the Apple drivers are virtually as fast and much more stable if you use system 8.6 or higher. I copied over 10GB of files to and from a DataShuttle yesterday in one take with no errors. I did have problems of the kind you mention with a DataShuttle once that were solved by swapping the PCMCIA card and cable. if you use the FireWire interface for the extra speed, things change a bit: you are obliged to install the necessary extensions on the mac for the HD to be recognized and mounted. One of our DataShuttles came with Radiologic drivers, the other with HDS. Using the 2400c with a RATOC FireWire card, I've found out that both drivers work fine, but HDS won't let you eject the card afterwards. This is a hassle as you'll have to shut down the 2400c and eject the card manually. The Radiologic drivers work fine in every respect. Even the hard drive icons are more pleasant to the eye. Bottom line: I haven't had very good experiences with HDS. But I must admit their hard drive testing utility is very handy. -- Jose Antonio Alvarez Dios e-mail addresses: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] e-fax number (in the USA, also handles voicemail) 1 (419) 828-9794 fax number (in Spain) 34981597054 ------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
