The slightly different cable isn't actually required with the SCSI
microdock (you can hold down the 'Z' key at boot time to put the Duo
in SCSI target mode; the microdock's NuBus firmware looks for the key
as it boots). You do need the 30-pin cable or one of the mentioned
switchable HDI-30/DB-25 adaptors to use an Apple Minidock in SCSI
target mode.
For the original poster, a SCSI microdock is probably the best
solution for your Syquest connection (in fact it's probably the most
useful single thing to add to any Duo, with the ethernet microdock in
second place). The minidock and ultradock both add more features, but
at the expense of real portability, plus they'll probably cost you
more.
