To follow your parlance, if your car went in for a major tune-up with serious electrical problems preventing proper engine (ignition) timing which resulted in a connecting rod punching the piston through the engine block...--...it might be a big and expensive repair job that even a major tune-up wouldn't/couldn't solve. In that case, cost of repairs might exceed value of the car (or computer). It might be cheaper to part it out and buy another. (If you really get stuck, I have a spare good MB but it's in CA and I'm in Switzerland until Sept.). Over the years some of us long-termers have found Paul Vail/AHC to be one of the most serious and thoughtful listers who has made many valuable contributions over the years.
