Traditional, Americans are spoiled , whiny, and don't give a hoot about others, and the rest of the world..That is why the rest of the world is slowly turning their noses up at the USA, in the 21st century. However, there are some really good people out there in the USA.. and APPLE for years, had this mentality of 'LET 'EM EAT CAKE ' when it came to parts, service, product, prices, etc..and it COSTED them dearly...Sure, Macs and powerbooks, are the cadillacs of the computer world..but beating customers, etc over the head, ain't the route to go...People, we on this list, for the most part, are using, and trying to get running 'out of production' macs..ranging from just out of production, to 10 year old duos ...APPLE has pretty much pulled the plug on stocking 'replacement' parts..and service..and most apple dealers, can't, or won't deal with these aging, loyal, and hard working workhorses....Which means having third party places like Paul, etc try to fix 'em at a reasonable price for both the owner and the place doing the service...In a lot of cases, APPLE phased a lot of parts out, but did not dump them into the out-of-production pipeline......Sometimes, one will get lucky, if a dealer, etc just happened to have a stash of parts in their back room... Most places are honest...but to dump on this poor guy, is just bad taste..and to air the beef, sucks...Sounds like a bad case of PMS ! to me..ok, I can expect bad FLAMES, over this post, but I don't care...whatta gonna do, whine to STEVE JOBS ?
