I believe that the consensus is that the 2300 is faster for stuff that is calculation intensive, such as ray tracing or Photoshop filtering, but slower at text editing, navigating the Finder, and possibly even web browsing. The machine to use depends on your intended use. I haven't yet purchased a hard drive for my 2300, but from my experience with lots of different laptops with various different IDE drives, it seems that the new ones spin up from a state of rest faster, and definitely read and write faster, although you will never realize the full potential throughput of a modern disk when it's connected to an antique bus. The faster spin-up would be the main advantage for a Duo user. A faster disk will only lead to a "faster Duo" under conditions of heavy disk usage, which are conditions to avoid in the first place. :P I have tuned my usage habits and system preferences to keep the disk asleep as much as possible, during which time my Duo is faster than any disk, SCSI or IDE. This is one of the main "tricks" which allows me to actually use a Duo 230 as my main machine. > Where in the world... I'm in California, USA (Los Angeles area).
