Depending on the objective, there seem to be worthy options available outside of Sherlock 1 or 2. For a snappier-feeling local search option, import the old "Find File" (OS8.0 version 1.1.3 was the most recent as far as I can tell). Hide the other by compressing it and <CMND> "F" will open "Find File" instead. For dedicated "Find by Content" searches, the shareware "Grapple" (v1.3 presently), does a wonderful job with more control and options again without the overheads of indexing. Not found an option yet outside of Sherlock for Internet searches. Would be interesting to have someone out there with a larger HD and/or G3 upgrade run a few speed comparisons. On a base 2400/180Hz/1.3G with 48M of RAM a combination of "Find File" and targetted "Grapple"searches, seem to win the race. My two bits.
