You need a 'DAA' box, it is a small grey box about 3" long by 1.5" wide and 1" high, it has a short cable at one end that plugs into the 8 pin port and an RJ11 (I think that is what it is called) socket at the other end for the phone line to plug in. this came about due to the British paranoia about allowing devices to be connected to the phone line, the box has an isolating transformer in it as at the time it was not considered adequate to have it inside the DUO as in the US version.
