Hey all, My first Duo was a 230 I bought off of eBay last year. I had to go through the process of replacing the main and pram batteries. I liked the Duo so much that my next purchase was a Duo 280. I raided the 230 for parts to make the 280 a nicely workable machine. Now I am curious about getting a color screen for it. I was wondering if swapping out screens is a difficult process? Are there any special considerations to be aware of? Also, the 230 has a modem installed, but the 280 doesn't. I am considering moving it over to the 280. I assume the modem is usable in the 280, but I haven't done the homework on it yet to see if swapping it over is going to be worth it. (The 280 has Sys 7.6 on it, btw.) I have no intention of making the 280 internet-ready. However, I would like the 280 to be able to communicate with my G4 tower that has OS X and OS 9.1 installed. I have a dock with an ethernet card installed, but I have no idea if the card works. I will try that route as a first option. If the ethernet is a no-go, then I will try the modem route. The reason that I want to do this in the first place is because I've been using the 280 as a picture server to house pictures taken on a Kodak DC-40 camera. In fact, I took the 280 with me on a 7 day bicycle trip across Iowa. I took a bunch of pictures during the trip and stored them on the 280. The pics are in Kodak's proprietary format. I need to convert the pics into pict or jpeg formats to use them for what I want. The PhotoEnhancer software can convert the pics, but only on Sys 7.5 or earlier. The software will hang on 7.6 or later. Converting pics on the 280 is slow as all get-out. (I also tried GraphicConverter for batch conversions, but it would report an error dealing with the kodak.lib) Thank goodness I took another look at Kodak's site as I found a batch converter there that will work on newer operating systems. I want to offload the pics from the 280 onto the G4 and do the pic conversions there. My old setup was to use a printer cable to network to a PM 7500 and then send the pics from the 7500 to the G4 via ethernet. The 7500 is no longer in the picture here, so I'm looking for a direct-connect. I'd rather deal with the materials I currently have and not purchase any more stuff. Sorry for the long post and thanks for any ideas. :) Rich ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net! A listserv for users and fans of Mac subportables.
