I took it to Radio Shack and had them hook up a (I think) voltimeter (sp?) -
a handheld device with a gauge, wires, and probes. The battery tested well
within the now unremembered specs from the computer's service manual.

Furthermore the program, MyBattery, indicates full charge and its History
window graphs battery temperatures as well as charge conditions between
plugging in the adapter and turning on the machine.

Of course I understand that Radio Shack is not necessarily a credible source
of information about things computational, and especially about things
Macintosh. But, I thought they'd probably be competent to handle testing a
battery. I read the information from the gauge, myself.

Actually, I may be getting a spare 280c motherboard from another
correspondent, and have bid on a very inexpensive 280c, sans screen, on
Ebay. The 2300 upgrade turns out to be more than I need to get into right
now since it tends to involve locating and purchasing a power-supply, as
well. My wife and I are closing soon on a new house and will have a move
and other costs associated. Her patience with my computer projects and
expenses is always short, and somewhat shorter just now.
