That's a good idea and I'll do it Wednesday. But I don't think a bad
battery would account for the fact that the machine will not awaken from
sleep mode when the adapter is plugged in.
The machine boots properly from the adapter except after it has fallen
asleep. Any attempt after more than literally a couple of minutes to awaken
the Duo from sleep results in a cessation of the blinking green light.
After that has happened, the machine has to be started from the reset
button.
Such a reset occasionally results in the eight-tone, but oddly cheery,
chimes of death. The eight tones supposedly indicate bad RAM (I have 24mb
installed), however I've run Newer Gauge Ramometer for about 13 hours
overnight with not a single error returned.
Additionally, my experiments with putting the system to sleep and using the
PowerBook Setup control panel (it's running 7.6.1) to force an automatic
wake-up resulted in similar crashes requiring reset button booting.
I'd hoped a new PRAM battery would fix all this. I'd be thrilled if this
were a main battery problem. Much easier than a motherboard swap.
