Hi all,

Continuing my theme of incredibly bad luck, my 2400 started doing the
GLOD thing again the day before my new iBook came home from thehe
shop. (My first iBook started on fire, then the replacement had a bad
trackpad and it was in the shop a month waiting for the part).

I need to get my stuff off the 2400 HD and onto the new one. At the moment
I am working on the uplug-the-2400-and-take-out-the battery-for-a
day-or-two remedy, hoping I can get it to start up just ONCE so I can at
least transfer my email over to the new onee before sending it off to get
a
new motherboard (this will be it's THIRD motherboard swap). It did start
up briefly today, but froze while booting.

I have two questions. The first one is, what do i do when it freezes and I
do ctrl-apple-power keys and the result its that the screen goes black but
it still sounds like it's on? (fan is running or something--it's humming
like it normally does when it's on and not powered down) I have just been
using the reset button when that happens, but I'm afraid I'm just making
things worse, and it never starts up again after that. (Just the "pop" or
nothing when I hold down the reset button for 45 secs and try again)

The second question is, is there any way to get the data off my hard drive
before I get the computer fixed? I know I can't do it, but could someone
at a repair place locally put it on CDs or something? All I really need
asap is my email program and my email. Right now I am logging into my
server using Zterm and writing email via the shell account, but there are
a lot of limitations this way, and I'm afaraid I'll have too much mail
piled up before I get my computer back (can't mail it to DT&T til
Monday). This seemed like the best solution for now because this way when
I get my mail and stuff I can just download everything from the server and
it will all get filtered and be in the right chronological order and
everything.

Any suggestion would be much appreciated!! Thanks, you guys. :-)

Corina
