Hello,
I've gotten a couple notes about the off topic messages lately and I just
wanted to take the opportunity to respond.
I've personally been shaken by the news of this week, angered by the
senseless loss of life, confused on how to respond to every day situations
in light of the horror that we see on the news 24 hours a day.
I've struggled with how to talk to my children (3, 5, & 7) about what they
are seeing and hearing. Responding to "Daddy, can that happen at my school?"
is easy to answer with "Of course not honey." but thinking through how
fragile my little ones are and how much they mean to me.
I'm also filled with pride hearing how many Americans have responded, the
gifts to the Red Cross from major corporations, the many people who gave
their lives in saving others, the kind words on the streets of New York, the
desire of my daughter to give change to the fund. I'm emboldened by the
resolve of our President and the support from all sides he seems to be
receiving.
I also think about those still trapped in the rubble and pray for their
preservation as rescuers dig to them. I think about the many families who
have lost loved ones, hoping anything but what will likely be the new they
fear. I also think about the likelihood that we may have lost list members
in this tragedy. I also think about those in countries who live with these
feelings on a regular basis.
All this to say that I'm not inclined to offer any suggestions as a ListMom
about what is appropriate to post right now. As some of the thoughtful,
reactionary, and apologetic messages on the Cube list reflect. Lets spend
some time appreciating the community here that each one of you have helped
to build. If it is only about computers we've sorely missed the boat.
For the next couple days, if it helps to use these lists as a place to talk
about what is going on in your life please feel free to use them for that
purpose. There is no room for profanity or name calling ever on our lists
but there is always room for us to be human, and work through what is going
on in our lives.
There are also some of us who need an outlet and distraction from the deluge
of news and information, so please continue to use the lists for their
intended purposes, only don't forget the greater purpose of learning and
experiencing the blessing of life and community. Please read all your
messages twice before clicking send, make room for grace and love, and allow
others to work through their grief in their own ways,
Thank you for taking the time to read this and to give me the opportunity
share a little of what is going on in my mind.
God bless and keep each and every one of you.
Eric
