What OSes are you running?

Basically, you'll need to plug in the cable. From there, on both 'books
you'll need to go to Apple-Control Panels-File Sharing (or Sharing Setup,
depending on version). Set up any options in there and hit Start for File
Sharing. From there, you'll need to actually share something out, highlight
the HD/folder you want shared and Go to File-Get Info-Sharing or
File-Sharing (again depending on OS version) and check the box to share it.

After that, go to Apple-Control Panels-Appletalk, and make sure both are set
to Ethernet. Finally, go to Apple-Chooser on both and make sure that
Appletalk is on on both.

You should now be able to click on Appleshare and see the server computer
from the client, double click it, type in the Owner name and password you
put in on the server, and you should see the shared items in a list.
Double-click it, and it should pop up on the desktop.
There ya go :)

Let me know if that was too confusing and I'll clean it up a bit ;)
